It happens from time to time. It says "answer wrong", but also says "8 EXP" without a minus symbol.
If it was actually marking your answer as being incorrect, it would have said "-16 EXP" (I think, or maybe it's only double you lose when it's kanji questions, I forget. Maybe "-8 EXP".)
Afaik: The reason it happened is simply that the communication broke down between your computer and the server the site is hosted, and therefore it couldn't find out from the server which answers are correct/incorrect. For some reason, the default action the website takes in this scenario seems to be to highlight whichever answer you clicked in red, say "answer wrong", and say the EXP you would earn for answering correct.
It shouldn't send any data to the server, seeing how it wasn't able to communicate with it. Therefore, you shouldn't lose/gain any EXP or combo when this happens, no matter which answer choices you click.
But to be on the safe side, it's probably best not to click any of the other answer choices and instead just refresh the page.
I think the usual reason this happens can be things like the server rebooting, or when Beeant is doing some maintenance, or something like this.
It would be nice if it handled this situation differently, rather than making it look like you answered wrong. A simple error message asking the user to refresh their page would be better, if this is possible. But anyway, it's fairly rare and hopefully didn't mess up your combo or anything. ^^
