- Try finding a japanese skype buddy? I imagine that would help a lotMay 1, 2014 at 10:43am
- One of the best methods to learn pronunciation is to watch japanese media such as anime.May 1, 2014 at 10:45am
- Talking to native proficient Japanese speakers in person is the best way to learn.May 1, 2014 at 11:14am
- My pronunciation of Japanese sucks, but then again I never find any chance to use it either, as I've hardly even seen any Japanese people here in the UK...
One of the best ways I found to learn pronunciation is Japanese radio (streaming over the internet). I found a couple of good stations which had lots of normal chatting (quite fast though) and even phone-ins from a random variety of Japanese people. Best to find a station without too much music, and somewhere near Tokyo (although listening to the dialects of other regions was interesting!). Some of the stations used very, very casual speech, but others were quite formal (ones with constant news updates). I haven't really tried to use it much though, and have forgotten the websites and stations I used...
I like anime and drama as a way to pick up pronunciation, and that definitely does help, but I noticed a clear difference listening to the radio stations where people on the phone-ins or rambling on about stuff were talking normally (not acting). :)May 1, 2014 at 2:07pm - If you have access to NHK's Tokyo-based Japanese news website, their どうが or 動画 page has current news videos in proficient native Japanese. http://www3.nhk.or.jp/news/index.html?page=movMay 1, 2014 at 2:20pm
- Yeah, their news videos aren't bad, but I couldn't find a live stream of NHK news tv channel (in Japanese language). I wanted something I could just leave running.
http://tunein.com seems like a decent site for online radio. Can easily find loads of Japanese stations by clicking 'by location' > Asia > Japan > and then even lets you choose which city. I'll probably try to listen to radio more often now, as that site is so nice and hassle free. ^^May 1, 2014 at 2:58pm
