- Romaji is pretty awkward and confusing to read, so they'd need to change their whole vocabulary quite a bit too. Might as well just go a bit further and ask why Japanese people can't just scrap Japanese and speak English instead... ^^
Kana isn't really any more difficult than the Latin alphabet. Spelling Japanese words in kana is probably easier than spelling English words with our alphabet, because in English we use different sounds for the same letters and multiple letters to make just one single sound.
Kanji is nice as often you can figure out what a word you've never read before might mean from looking at the radicals and combinations of kanji.
I do understand that kanji is painful to learn in a short space of time, and for writing quickly it is probably not very helpful at all. Learning Japanese would be nowhere near as interesting without kanji though.
Japanese grammar is harder than kanji for my English brain to get used to. Even though their grammar seems pretty sensible, the difference is still a major mind$#%@. :PMay 25, 2014 at 11:08am - Everyone says that when they start learning a language that is not in roman group.May 25, 2014 at 11:12pm
- "M's"? what does that mean?
also, if you don't like it, don't learn it. it's not hard to learn if you have patience and diligence.May 26, 2014 at 1:53am - It's like a japanese person learning english and saying why do i have to learn the alphabet, english speaking people are morons.May 26, 2014 at 3:00am
- @keiririn: I guess "M's" is supposed to mean masochists...May 26, 2014 at 5:11am
- Coincidentally, I was just shared a weird random link which happens to display very well- how our alphabet does a horrible job at spelling the pronunciation of English words:

... Whereas kana does a brilliantly efficient job at spelling the pronunciation of Japanese words.
@VanillaQiwi +1! I like what you did there. :DMay 26, 2014 at 1:51pm
