- A mistake which would never have happened if kana keyboard input was used! :P
Haha, only messing. I just feel sad that it seems even less people than I thought use kana input -- I thought it was like 25% of Japan, but the more I read it sounds more like 0.1%... ;_;May 28, 2014 at 11:36am - When it comes to the word 囲む in the answer section you can find かこむ not only once, but twice.May 28, 2014 at 4:55pm
- @mog86uk: Kana input is not very ergonomic nor is it practical in my opinion. I chose to use it 'cause I don't use a standard keyboard layout (Colemak), so I decided to give kana input a try. Tried it out for half a year. I just couldn't use for long periods. Since then, I've changed the IME keyboard layout to the one I use. It's not great either, but it gets the job done.May 30, 2014 at 2:47pm
- I haven't had to type a lot of Japanese in one sitting, so I haven't noticed the ergonomic issue much yet, but I can see there's a good chance there would be an issue.
I'm surprised that Japan hasn't come up with a more practical version of kana input. I guess if Japanese people use English for quite a few things too, so they don't really mind just sticking with romaji input.
I'd have thought there'd be more specialised keyboards for Japanese. I've thought about buying a thumb shift keyboard to see what it's like to use, although I'm not sure if they still make them anymore?May 31, 2014 at 12:46am - There are other kana layouts other than the standard one that try to make typing in kana more ergonomic. I have the website bookmarked on my home laptop. I'll drop it in here when I get home.
I think it's the same reason why QWERTY still exists. Having five of the top 10 letters used in the English language on the top row of the keyboard isn't very ergonomic. But it's all about what works, and QWERTY works for the majority of people.
That's a good question. I'm curious about that as well. I haven't seen in an electronic store here.June 2, 2014 at 8:41am
