Just in case anyone was wondering, nothing bad happens if you reach 100 times answered correct on a single word (other than not getting any exp on the last 71 times)... >_>

- Haha yeah I know that. I'm at the point where I'm just trying not to lose the EXP I gained. I think it was to prevent people to gain a lot of EXP just answering the same known vocabulary over and over.May 31, 2014 at 1:59pm
- Once a lot of my level 1 questions had naturally gone past 29 times correct and yet still kept popping up far too often, I decided I needed to do something to counter the problem of regularly getting 0 EXP. At this point, some questions such as 机 had already reached 50~60 times correct.
What I do now: Seeing as most of my level 1 vocabulary gives me 0 EXP, I therefore set Practice to only level 1 when my combo is 0-99, and then set it to only levels 2-6 when my combo is 100+.
This way I'm not wasting the questions that still give EXP when I don't have 10x bonus. Of course, this has made my level 1 vocabulary to shoot up even faster to 100 times correct. Kinda silly, I know, but without doing this, is it even possible anymore just doing Practice to reach Medyrius' 千万 EXP? :P
Eventually, once every question has been answered correctly 29 times, then no more EXP can be gained from doing Practice or Lessons... Readings and Notes give barely any EXP in comparison.
I know EXP isn't the important thing at all, but still...May 31, 2014 at 3:13pm - I didn't know about the 29 max answers before I reached the limit and since I was doing all levels at the same time and didn't pay attention to the combos, I lost a lot of points oTL. The only level that still giving me points is kanji level 5 that was the most difficult for me. Now I'm trying not to waste my few remaining points and doing like you. (far too late) 9th position is the best I could, (now I'm at 10th). My 100% right answers is also decreasing, it's easier to get 30 right answers than 100, a moment of distraction, stuck mouse or cat walking on the keyboard and it's over.May 31, 2014 at 9:34pm
- For a long time I didn't even notice the combo counter was there and I was getting some answers wrong more often than I got them right. I had one of the highest amounts of incorrect answers out of everyone on this site! But then I learnt more about rendaku, on/kun rules, the 214 radicals... instead of simply hoping to learn it all by trial and error. :P
Funny what you said about 100% correct answers too. I assume blue 'Excellent' status for words means 'Never answered wrong'? Given enough time and enough cats, the number of 'Excellent' words will keep decreasing until we have none of these words left and the bar will be completely green 'Good' status.
I remember Medyrius saying somewhere that he wasn't a fan of the 29 answer limit either. I doubt he'd want to ruin his score anyway though, but maybe if he is overtaken by someone (me!) then he might want to start earning EXP again. ^_^June 1, 2014 at 12:12am - When I started on JCJP, I tried the tests first, noted my weakness and then did the lessons, I've gotten a lot of wrong answers as well, probably more than you :p. I already knew about 300-350 kanji when I joined, a bit about rendaku and radicals but I was still confusing on and kun readings. I'm better than a year ago but still a "tourist", I need to be more serious...
Yes, "Excellent" is for words you never got wrong. I've 3 cats and I'm easily distracted, (plus a broken computer) so I guess in my case the blue bar won't stay long lol.
I don't know if the limit was always there, I heard some users exploited the system of point a way too much in the past. Medyrius joined several years ago if I remember well and has answered more questions than anybody else, I think it was around 125 000 kanji and almost 200 000 vocabulary with very few mistakes, not sure, but he was at the top of all ranking pages on the old JCJP. Who will be the next number 1? I wonder, many contenders have already reached their limits...I would say Terriz has good chances. ;) and you will probably reach the top 5 soon...unless a new level is released :pJune 1, 2014 at 5:59am - I've read through your conversation and I'm really confused... What limit are you guys talking about? I understand this is about EXPs.....I noticed that I get more EXPs for some words than for other, but I don't really understand what you mean.
If I understand it correctly, there is a point when you can't get any new EXPs? But there's a way to avoid that? Or am I completely wrong...?
Sorry for butting in but who doesn't love a nice EXP count? :DJune 1, 2014 at 8:59am - @VanillaQiwi For each individual question JCJP keeps track of how many times you answered it correct and incorrect. You get normal EXP for the first 29 times you answer the specific question correctly, but for the 30th time and onwards you will get 0 EXP.
As Annick was saying, some users exploited this by answering just the same question over and over, getting loads of EXP. I think this was done by pressing your browser's back button and repeating the previous question, or maybe by repeating the same lesson (or part of it) over and over again, I don't really know though. But obviously something needed to be done to prevent this exploit -- so this limit was introduced.
I'm not a fan of the 29 limit either. It would be nicer if a better method of preventing this exploit was implemented -- something which doesn't penalise ordinary users.
・There's 3209 individual practice questions (1753 vocabulary + 1456 kanji).
・A reasonably heavy user of this site can easily do 200 questions a day (~20,000 EXP with x10 combo bonus).
・So answering 3209 questions can be done in 16 days by a user who normally gets around 20,000 EXP.
This means after little over a year (around 15 months), a heavy user could quite likely have answered every question 29 times!June 1, 2014 at 10:58am - Ohhh I see! Thank you so much for clearing this up for me. Hah...that does sound a bit frustrating... I mean, it's about learning of course, but earning EXPs is a nice motivation, too.
Would be nice if that limit would be set back to 0 after a word has ended up in the Oblivion state or something like that...
Anyway, thanks for answering! :)June 1, 2014 at 11:05am - * ... some users exploited the system ... (not 'this')
Sorry, it sounded a bit confusing the way I wrote it.
If you're interested in how EXP is calculated in Practice...
Vocabulary level 1 questions = 6 exp, lv2 = 7 exp, lv3 = 8 exp, lv4 = 9 exp, lv5 = 10 exp, lv6 = 11 exp.
Kanji level 1 questions = 7 exp, lv2 = 8 exp, lv3 = 9 exp, lv4 = 10 exp, lv5 = 11 exp, lv6 = 12 exp.
You get a 'combo' bonus for answering questions correctly in a row. If you get a question wrong, you lose the bonus and the combo starts over again.
20 questions answered correct in a row combo bonus = x2, 30 questions = x3, 40 = x4, 50 = x5, 60 = x6, 70 = x7, 80 = x8, 90 = x9, 100 = x10. (Doesn't go any higher than x10).
Example:
You're doing Practice and have answered 86 questions correctly in a row (x8 combo bonus) and you encounter a level 5 kanji question (11 EXP). If you answer this question you will get 88 EXP (11x8). ^^June 1, 2014 at 11:17am - @VanillaQiwi Bleh, I didn't see your post because I hadn't refreshed the page. ^^;
Your idea is pretty good. There must be loads of ways the limit could be handled better, if it's even still needed at all in this new version of JCJP.June 1, 2014 at 11:26am - I believe I'm a heavy user, I achieved that (or almost) in less than 12 months. Nothing compared to Kekkou though :p
Another suggestion I've read was to give less point to 30+ good answers.June 1, 2014 at 11:26am - @mog86uk Haha thanks for the extra-explanation! :D It's interesting to see the complete EXP system! I noticed some changes with the EXP distribution when getting a certain combo...
Yeah I think so too. Guess we will have to see!
@Annick Ohhh impressive! *___*June 2, 2014 at 1:01am - I like the fact that everyone is allowed to go at his or her own pace when doing practice. I don't know if this is possible or not, but I'd like to see a little more EXP awarded based on how quickly you can choose the correct answer.June 2, 2014 at 11:38am
- In the old JCJP we had challenges that gave more points to the fastest, however those with slow computers or connections were penalized.June 2, 2014 at 11:46pm
- @Koukyoshi I think Beeant actually suggested something a lot like this.
One of the main things I like about this site though is that the Practice is effortless and relaxed. I like doing Practice while eating, listening to music, watching TV, ... I kind of like the idea of bonus points for answering quick, but not sure about a penalty for answering slow, and I'm not sure how fairly it work out for people on slower connections and devices.
Like Annick said, there used to be a challenge feature where users could go head-to-head with each other, in a race to see who could answer 10 random questions the quickest. This feature is meant to be returning in this version of JCJP at some point, but beeant seems pretty busy with everything else.June 3, 2014 at 6:43am - You two make excellent points. I didn't even think about those with slower connections. It would be a little hard to figure out a fair way for those people.
I started JCJP a little before it became what it is now, and I challenged Kekkou. Didn't know you received extra EXP if you won, tho.June 4, 2014 at 3:19pm - On my old internet connection I never managed to even complete the 10 challenge questions within the 60 second time limit. Each question used to take about 3-5 seconds to load...
The server back then was located in Japan, so people who live further away had far less chance of winning, especially if their opponent was living in Japan. :P
I can't remember if it gave extra EXP for winning (I don't think it did). I remember if you got a Challenge question wrong then you lost your Practice combo!! Kind of made it difficult to answer quickly if you had like 1000 combo that you didn't want to lose... :PJune 5, 2014 at 12:07am
