I see many people saying "Romanji", not only here, but everywhere.
Clarifying: the correct is "Romaji - ローマ字", litterally, "Roman letters (latin)".

- You mean the movie 'Jumanji' right? That's exactly what I've regulary thought of whenever I've heard people say 'romanji', lol, not even joking!! O.oAugust 22, 2014 at 11:33pm
- Damn! A spelling mistake really ruins a joke! Yeah, I guess that is what I thought too ^^August 23, 2014 at 12:52am
- @Keybladehero How about 'Chineseji'? Would it be alright for me to say that to mean 漢字? Also, I'm considering 'Englishgo' for when Japanese people speak 英語. :D
We had another post with people correcting 'Romanji' only a week ago:
http://japaneseclass.jp/feeds/comment/5034August 23, 2014 at 1:32am - Romaji is a japanese word, don't mix stuff.August 23, 2014 at 1:41am
- ローマ字 is a Japanese word. Romanji is an English word referring to the lazy, non kana translation that is used to teach tourists and non serious learners the language. Who cares about the people that can read kana, more people can't read it and are too lazy to learn it.
Romaji is good for learning the kana. But it has spread like a disease infecting textbooks and other things that could have used kana.
It's horrible and deserves no respect, thus romanji is better suited to it.
I'm not a fan of it by the way.August 23, 2014 at 4:27am - Yay someone else who likes Kingdom Hearts! =D WatashiwaKingdomHeartsgadaisukidesu!August 23, 2014 at 5:33am
- Wikipedia: sometimes incorrectly transliterated as romanji or rōmanji.
Google: Did you mean: romaji
Romanji: 400k hits
Romaji: 8m hits.
It's not really an "English word", but simply a common error (there are many of these in English, but it doesn't mean it's correct).
This is just from looking into it now, feel free to prove me wrong with a valid source.August 23, 2014 at 5:34am - Romaji is technically correct. The same as こんにちは is technically correct. It doesn't stop people say こんにちわ.
Some people say romanji to express their dislike of it. Others might think it's correct. It's not correct but who gives a shit.August 23, 2014 at 5:49am - Just because people use it, doesn't mean it's correct. Source?August 23, 2014 at 5:57am
