On-yomi is the Chinese reading of kanji. You use on-yomi when there are two kanji together(ex.学生(gaku-sei which means student);you use on-yomi).Kun-yomi is the Japanese reading of kanji. You use kun-yomi when a kanji is by itself.(ex. 学ぶ(mana-bu) which means to study in depth or to learn.
