Why are there so many different hiragana combinations on how to pronounce this kanji? Is it just because it has multiple meanings and each meaning has its own pronunciation?

Nevermind I see there are only 3 pronunciations... but when added with other kanji, it makes the days of the week.

    *sigh*

I need to go back to memrise.com

Despite your link being correct, it won't go through properly, as it omits the 日 during the change of page and you just get the blank search fields. If the topic creator goes through there and needs help, copy the character or type it in. Although the name variations are generally not so useful. No one will expect you to be able to read someone's (first) name, as with many of them, even Japanese people have troubles. Last names are generally much easier, with the exception of some that can be read multiple ways. For example, on first meeting a new teacher 中島先生, even the other teachers didn't know whether it was Nakashima or Nakajima. Both are valid readings.
