    Definitely not masculine and feminine.

    これ is a pronoun; この is and adjective/determiner (or "prenominal adjective"). Both mean "this" though.

    Did that actually help? Sorry, I was being a bit lazy at the time and got distracted. I was going to give a bit more explanation.

    Xはいいです。 "X is good."

    In the place of X you could insert any noun. Let's replace it with something simple like アニメ.

    アニメはいいです。 "Anime is good."

    Now if you were watching an anime with a friend, you could say:

    A) これはいいです。 "This is good."
    B) このアニメはいいです。 "This anime is good."

    In A, これ is used as a pronoun "this" in place of whatever it is used a referring to. "this" could refer to "the anime we are watching" or "this anime" or something else like "being able to relax at your place after work and watch anime like we are now" [is good]. これ is never placed immediately before a noun-- only on it's own "this".

    In B, この is used as a determiner "this" before the noun you are talking about "anime". Because この is a determiner (or "pre-noun adjectival"), this means it is always used before another noun and never on it's own-- "this pen", "this car", etc., never just "this".

    Hmm... Now I think my explanation went on too long and over the top, lol.
    ^^;

    That helped way more, I thought that they could go into any sentence. Thanks again for explaining!
