I'm a little bit confused with the "ei" pronunciation.
When I listen to several audio recordings for the word 有名, it sounds like the ei is being pronounced as "eh" but shouldn't it be pronounced as "ay" like 先生 or きれい?

I think there is variation in how different speakers pronounce this sound. It is always longer than just an え sound, though; if there is no い sound, it will sound more like ええ than just え.
