みなさん!また私です!別問題はあります。
Is there actually any game, rpg preferably, that is meant for learning Japanese or is beneficial and conducive to Japanese learning? I already know about the slim forest adventure (after scouring through mog's profile) and I wonder if there still is any other Japanese learning-based game?? Be it desktop or android version. Please recommend! :)

Both of those are still in development however. I've known about Koe for a long time which looks especially promising. I'm looking forward to seeing the final product. (But I still think it won't beat how awesome SFA is)! :P

That one only teaches hiragana, but looks pretty interesting for people at that stage. I've no idea whether it is very effective or not though since I've never played it.
For now, I'm pretty sure there aren't any RPG style Japanese learning games anywhere near as good as SFA (Slime Forest Adventure). I think a lot of people won't like the style of the game, believing it needs better graphics, or about the lack of any sound (when you should want to have your own music playing anyway when studying, not annoying repetitive audio), or too much typing (I like to think of it as good touch-typing practice, espcially kana layout practice), or not liking having to work out where go next in the game (even though that's what RPGs are like...). Some people probably hate it for those reasons, but I love it. I can't ever recommend SFA enough for how helpful it has been to me with rapidly learning to identify the 1,972 kanji in the game. ^^

There was also a really awesome looking game I saw on Android recently, but I haven't tried it yet because it you have to buy it. However, I've just looked it up properly and found out that there is a free demo version. I'm going to check it out now!

I don't remember for definite about this, but I'm fairly sure think JCJP was originally planned to be come a RPG-like game. That would be interesting if it ever does become one some day. ^^April 30, 2016 at 4:01am - Woah, that last game I mentioned, the "Kanji No Owari" Android game is amazing! It's like the mobile phone answer to SFA, haha. After my last post I played it for nearly 2 hours straight, managing to defeat the N5 and N4 bosses and clearing nearly everything in the demo. It's insanely addictive, defeating enemies to level up your equipment stats. I should have bought it immediately as soon as I realised I liked it, because it's not possible to transfer save data from the demo to the full version app. I'd managed to get each piece of my equipment to almost lv20. I had fun playing as the Shinobi character, but I think I'm going to switch to Samurai this time. ^^
The demo lets you do the N5 and N4 locations, which is about 250 kanji. The full version has three more locations, for N3-N1.
Seems this game has only been in the Play Store for a few weeks. I'm sure this game is going to very well known soon. It sounds like they'll be porting it to iOS soon too, and eventually to desktop.April 30, 2016 at 6:36am - http://www.joyokanji.com/gamesApril 30, 2016 at 6:49am

April 30, 2016 at 6:50am - Just started SFA, it's perfect, just put some Japanese music to listen and play the game, problem of no sound solved :)April 30, 2016 at 7:12am
- Noooo. The N3 location took forever to get to the boss, but I finally made it to him and died when I was only one hit away from defeating him!! So close. XD
Still, I feel good that I managed to defeat N5, N4 and almost N3 bosses within an hour and a half of starting a new game. I can't imagine how long the N1 location must take to battle your way to the boss. I'm going to set myself a challenge that I must defeat the N1 boss within 48 hours from when I started game...
@Odisi, Glad you're enjoying it so far! If you get stuck, you might want to check out this wiki (although it hasn't been filled in that much, and has been kind of abandoned, but should cover most of the free version's contents):
http://slime-forest-adventure.wikia.comApril 30, 2016 at 8:31am - Hey mog86uk, I just got to first island, slimes' island, so I need to know the first 100 kanji (kana standard game) right? But the game doesn't teach me that kanjis? If so I'm writing them right now xDApril 30, 2016 at 9:18am
- Btw @mog86uk thanks for the wikiApril 30, 2016 at 9:29am
- You have to do training battles in the forest areas outside the cave before you enter it. First the training battles go through katakana, then through hiragana, then it will start going through the first 100 kanji.
Check your "Status" in the menu. If you are ready to start encountering kanji in the training battles, then it should say "Katakana: 48+26", "Hiragana: 48+25", "Kanji: 0". If not, you still have some katakana and hiragana training slimes to get through before you can encounter the kanji ones. Then keep doing training battles until your kanji stat reaches "Kanji: 100". Then you will be ready to tackle that cave. ^^April 30, 2016 at 9:34am - わかりました.
ありがとうございます!April 30, 2016 at 9:42am - Btw, when you answer kanji training slimes, try using ENTER instead of SPACE. This way it displays a mnemonic to help you remember the English keyword for the kanji and it also shows you a common reading for the kanji.
The main way of answering kanji slimes is by typing the English keyword. However, if you forget the keyword, you can also type one of the readings of the kanji instead. Like for 人 you can answer it as the keyword "person" or answer it as one of the readings ("hito", "jin", "nin", ...). ^^April 30, 2016 at 10:00am - The kanjis just started to show up, thanks for the tips. :DApril 30, 2016 at 10:44am
- I would suggest Dragon Quest 1 becuase it is fully in hiragana and you learn locations like north south east west, Items and basic grammer. Make sure it is the Famicom 80s version because the remakes are in kanji. Final Fantasy is the same on the Famicom, but I feel that for beginners dragonquest is better.May 14, 2016 at 4:27pm
- Nice tip @Kumano_Timu , I recently saw a guy playing shining force II and was full of kana. Gonna give it a try as well. I'm justing finishing DQ Heroes today, DQ 1 will be a nice game to play now.May 27, 2016 at 8:05am
- Ya I played through DQ1 and 2 on my Japanese Famicom. I took a ton of notes and have 3 notebooks full of words and grammar that I encountered. If you have a DS or 3DS from your own country you can play Japanese DS games. You cannot play Japanese 3DS games as they are region locked. With that said take a look at this http://www.nihongonobaka.com/top-11-games-for-learning-japanese/May 27, 2016 at 9:57am
