It is to test your typing speed but it also lets me see how many words/min I can read as my actual typing speed is much faster than my reading speed. Here is my score.

- @shirokitsune, Ooh. That's the same site I posted a few weeks back! Wait till you try the "advanced" typing test (top 1000 words instead of 200), it becomes a much more interesting reading challenge. ^^
I found your profile page. Here's mine for some competition:

And speaking of "competition", there's also a competition mode. Here, I've just created a private competition for only JCJP users to have a go at. You can retake the test as many times as you want to improve your time and the text remains the same:

(This competition ends in 24 hours time.)September 14, 2016 at 10:16am - wow you are fast at typing. I feel ashamed of my speed haha.September 14, 2016 at 10:42am
- When I started using that site my speed was about the same as yours, around the ~40 wpm mark. But over the few days I used the site I suddenly started to get a lot better.
I think most of my speed increase was just from getting into the flow of how the game worked, such as improving on looking ahead at the next words while still typing the current one. But also my general Japanese typing speed actually started improving from using the site too.
Most of my Japanese typing skill comes from playing Slime Forest Adventure, where you have to type fast or the slimes kill your character. It also has a touch typing trainer for both romaji input mode and kana input mode. And also my typing mod for the Practice feature here on JCJP probably helped significantly too.
But I think you'll get a lot faster over the next few days like I did if you keep using that site.
I always use kana input mode rather than romaji input mode for typing Japanese characters. I don't know if kana input mode gives me an advantage or disadvantage though. Are you using romaji input mode?September 15, 2016 at 4:40am - http://10fastfingers.com/user/1208940/
↑Ooh. I see you're up to 63 wpm now. ^^September 15, 2016 at 4:42am - I am using romaji as I still have no idea how to type the kana. I think kana would be much faster as it is literally one less stroke per syllable. So six strokes turn into 3. Do you know any sites to learn the touch typing for Japanese? I work in Japan and all of the computers I use have the Japanese on the keyboards but it just seams a lot more difficult than typing romaji.September 15, 2016 at 8:05am
- I can switch from English characters to kana by pressing Windows key + Space bar (you'll probably have to set that up first), but I don't think kana actually does give you much of an advantage, since when you type, let's say, "s", it shows up as an "s" until you put a vowel in front of it, meaning you still need to type 2 letters for each kana character.
I hope we're talking about the same thing here xDSeptember 15, 2016 at 8:52pm - @Kks74, "I hope we're talking about the same thing here xD"
Nope. xDSeptember 15, 2016 at 9:51pm - When I say that I am typing romaji I mean that I type the way you were talking about @Kks74 but when I talk about typing in Kana I mean one stroke equals one kana. Here is a picture of a keyboard that has that layout.
