I dont have an IME to type japanese so.. i was wondering...in my genki textbook i came across a word "itsutekimasu" but of course as hiragana, im confused because the tsu..the actual pronunctiation is ittekimasu im wondering what the rule on that is

    The つ (tsu) may be smaller, is it? If so then it is pronounced ittekimasu. Ex. 行ってきます、the tsu is small, but in いつてきます it is not, so it is fully pronounced as tsu.

    I'm still new to learning Japanese myself, but I have run into this before too in other words. If I understand correctly, the little tsu basically means you repeat the consonant sound that follows it. This is why you get the double t instead of pronouncing this tsu. I'm not sure if I explained that well, but hopefully it helps :)
