Hey guys, I'm confused about the reading and writing direction of Japanese.
In English, you read and write from left to right, starting from the very top.
In Japanese, you read and write from top to bottom, starting from where?

The vertical rows (columns) in go from right to left.

You might already be aware that Japanese books begin at the other end compared to English books (e.g. the front cover page of a manga is where the back cover of an English book would be). So the pages start "from the back" and you flick through the pages in reverse order towards "the front" (at least, this is what it feels like to a person only familiar with English book page order).

So it makes sense, if the pages are read starting from the rightmost page working your way leftwards, that the vertical rows (columns) begin on the right side of the page and are read working your way leftwards too.
