no learn the kun and onyomi then you should learn the meaning, then practice using it in context

I think you should learn kanji through vocabulary, for exemple you encounter a new word, if you don't know a kanji in it, you check the meaning, you will recognize the word better if you check the meaning of each kanji but do not study kanji alone.
I think it's easier to learn the meaning of each kanji first. Mostly because knowing the kanji makes studying vocab 100 times easier.

There is only one small problem that make Kanji learning very hard. You never know how to read the Kanji or the word with couple of kanji. Many Kanji have many different meanings.
