I think it's possible by watching Japanese movies or TV shows. This is can be a more efficient way but at the same time might take longer time too... depends on you. Watching anime can be a good way too, but you need to be careful because many words in anime are only used in anime or rarely used in real conversation.
It is definitely possible, but it will take longer than those who learn with Japanese direct environments. The best way to learn is of course go to Japan and live there, but some of us can't just afford that. So as long as you keep your 2nd factor up - the passion to learn Japanese - you'll do just fine.
