- Typically I have the same issue with most kanji but I don't put any time into actually learning how to write because I beleive my time is better spent learning to read 10 kanji rather than learning how to write 5 in the same time period.
To address a solution to your problem I would suggest taking the Japanese way that is just writing the character over and over again until its natural.June 9, 2014 at 6:25am - this is due to your brain having two key stages of memorization: recall and reproduce.
recall allows you to remember something with a cue, and reproduce allows you to come up with it on your own. Reproduce takes a lot longer than recall, give it time and you'll have it down easily.June 9, 2014 at 8:34am - You could also try and remember kana by what they look like to such as "ya" for yak: http://quizlet.com/21289955/hiragana-picture-flash-cards-flash-cards/June 9, 2014 at 6:35pm
- Do you really need to be able to write them by hand, at the moment anyway? Most the time you will probably be writing kana on a computer, so you don't need to be able to draw them for that.
If you want to be able to remember them when trying to draw them, then you just need to keep practising writing them on paper. My way of doing this was to frequently write out the kana tables whenever I was bored and felt like it, most of the time from memory without anything to copy. Later, check each kana you drew to see where there are wrong strokes and where there are incorrect proportions and angles. Keep doing this regularly until you're drawing it near enough perfectly from memory.
I still wouldn't suggest this is a good thing to focus on learning, as you probably won't have any real need to write kana on paper for a long time (other than showing off to friends). However, it's good to do if you're just doing it for fun when you get bored, and if the only entertainment you have to hand is a pen and some paper... :)
A better idea might be to print off some proper writing practice sheets, like you can download for free from this page:
