- Author. Its Because it means author in Chinese.
Trust me.August 17, 2014 at 4:36pm - what i find even more annoying actually are questions that are super easy to guess, even if you don't know them. for example, the question might be an english verb, and only one of the multiple choice answers in japanese ends in -u. anyone with some basic grammar knowledge would know it's that one, even if they don't know any of the words, just because it's the only verb.August 17, 2014 at 4:42pm
- @fairytailboy I think you may not have noticed what I meant when I said this question is "difficult".
@rinkuhero True.
I think for vocabulary practice questions it is 100% random what the other 3 answer choices will be -- that they are randomly picked each time from the other words in the vocabulary database (only from the levels you have set Practice to though!). I'm not completely sure though, as sometimes it seems like it's giving you similar answers on purpose, but I believe this is just a coincidence. (?)
For kanji questions, the answer choice list is statically set for each word -- it never changes; you always get the same answer choices for each question. The only thing that does change is the ordering of the answer choices, which is completely random. The answer choices for kanji questions aren't taken from the database (unlike for vocabulary), but seems to have been hand written. This is why some of the choices have strange typographic errors like the following kanji question:
東北
-1- とうほく
-2- とふく
-3- とうほう九 <-- Has a kanji in the answer choices!
-4- ひがしかたAugust 17, 2014 at 10:41pm - @fairytailboy I guess you might have just been trying to point out that 作者 is more specifically "author" rather than "writer" (for which there are other more specific words, like 筆者 for example). I shouldn't have just presumed you didn't look at the image carefully enough. Sorry. :/August 17, 2014 at 11:01pm
- i think what would be interesting is if the site were adaptive in the sense that it would remember which answers were confusing to users -- like at first it'd be random choices, but the ones that people tended to confuse the real answer with would, over time, be recorded, and appear more often, making the questions more challenging (it'd record the data from all users, i mean)August 18, 2014 at 1:23am
- @rinkuhero I really like that Idea. I wonder how difficult it would be to implement... Seems to me that it wouldn't take too much work, just that it probably would be tricky getting it to work efficiently.August 18, 2014 at 2:02pm
