Does anyone know if there is a benefit to adding someone as a friend here?

Not to sound standoffish, because, I deeply appreciate everyone who fins my belligerent and (sometimes mildly offensive posts) funny, but, I just am wonder if it does anything, or just makes us feel nice.

Also: If anyone wants to actually become friends, or just talk about learning Japanese or what it is like living in Japan, feel free to add me on skype at - youngmax206

@K In the previous version of this website, you could add other users as friends to challenge them in a timed kanji and vocabulary game. In the current version of this website, a red notification icon appears at the top of the website, but as far as I know, there is no real benefit.

Pretty there's only one very small benefit to adding friends: You have a link to their profile, for if you need to talk to someone but completely forgot their username...

At the same time there's a potential drawback: Adding lots of friends may cause your profile page to take longer to load. This was actually a major problem when this version of JCJP was made, as some users had so many friends that it was impossible to get onto that user's profile without it timing out. This problem was completely fixed, but there may still be an issue if you were to add something crazy like a few thousand friends--who knows?

So I try to only add people I've talked to before (unless I click the wrong button, then there's no way of removing them...). It is kind of useful having links to friend's profiles, but at the same time you could just type their username in the search bar at the top of the page, lol, so even this is not particularly useful... :P
