- That moment when you play jcjp so much that you even know what all the "kanji" question words mean, when you don't even need to know what they mean to answer the question...
Also, if you haven't tried it already, try doing Practice with the "Show kana" option switched off. After a few encounters of the same question your brain will start to automatically pronounce the questions you see without you being able to stop it. For me that was quite a weird realisation when it happened--how quickly your mind adapts to not having the furigana. ^^April 9, 2015 at 12:00pm - Awesome! I'll try out the no kana option. That'll give me a nice challenge. But before that let me just knock out all 1,249 of these oblivion kanji :/April 9, 2015 at 12:30pm
- It's not so bad. I'm at 1479 oblivion! ;_;
Until recently I'd kept my oblivion list clear almost every day for a few months. I kinda lost interest when I stopped earning EXP completely from doing Practice questions.April 9, 2015 at 12:51pm - 2753 oblivion, huh? Guess I should try that sometime, but I had an issue before where loading up lists with lots of things waiting - well, pretty much oblivion - caused the site to not like me.April 9, 2015 at 12:59pm
- oh geez and i thought i had it bad... that's like twice as much as meApril 9, 2015 at 1:00pm
- Eh, this site is number 3 or 4 of my studying routine, so I don't always get to it. It's too static to help in actually learning things, for me, so it just helps me review.April 9, 2015 at 1:02pm
- What other sites do you use?April 9, 2015 at 1:03pm
- Primarily memrise and renshuu - memrise has a nice SRS function to it, and renshuu has a good ranking to let you know how well you know all the aspects of a kanji - what the different readings are, how many strokes it has, etc.April 9, 2015 at 1:08pm
- ah ok. I use memrise as well but instead of renshuu i use lang 8.April 9, 2015 at 1:09pm
- Oh, I meant clearing oblivion naturally during the course of using Practice. I never use the oblivion page itself.
JCJP is probably number 1 right now on my study routine, but I used to use a lot of different tools for learning Japanese. I'm planning to get back to focussing hard on learning with Slime Forest Adventure soon. But at the moment I'm enjoying creating custom mods on JCJP, so I spend quite a lot of time on this site. :DApril 9, 2015 at 1:25pm - It's a shame using the oblivion page doesn't count towards attendance. Using that oblivion page would probably be more efficient use of this site for me--answering each question only after every 30 days have passed since the previous time should be more testing on my long term memory than repeatedly answering the same repetitive questions.April 9, 2015 at 1:31pm
- mog, and that's what I mean about the efficiency of this site - I stopped using it when I was first learning Japanese because it's not good - for me - in producing a natural learning of anything. I love SRS tools because they will require you to remember when the item is or is close to being out of your memory. I don't mind using this as a review of things I learned elsewhere, though. Or, since I've gotten to the point where I can guess the general meaning of most kanji, coming here and just getting it right because the multiple choice questions here generally only have one answer that comes close to fitting the kanji. dom, you should really try renshuu - another, if you don't mind shelling out $15 for a month, is Skritter - you get access to download as many terms as you want, and you can work on terms you saw already for as long as you'd like for free after, so I just downloaded tons of terms that I will never get them all.April 9, 2015 at 4:33pm
- I stopped bothering with oblivion due to questions loading fairly slow.
At this rate I'm more worried that I can't call a kanji from memory before actually seeing it.
I like the google image thing though, in some cases it shows the general application of a phrase/kanji, and it settles down much easier.April 9, 2015 at 8:53pm
