there's something i'm rather curious about. what's the difference between 食べ and 飲み? both involve eating (i think) or is it just the 1st one?

    yes, their meanings are about eating, but 食べる (or 食べます) and 飲む (or 飲みます) are two different verbs
    食べる: to eat ~> 食べ物 (noun): food
    飲む: to drink ~> 飲み物 (noun): drinks, beverage

    OH! now i know why the two kanji looked different! i remember now, 食=food while 飲=drink in chinese. thank you!!! i reply mostly on chinese when learning, so i can get mixed up from time to time. really, thank you!!
