I just got a word in my Practice which was indicated as "last encounter 2 years ago" :-)
Long time no see!
It was:
築く- to build
i searched the oblivion kanji, and indeed it was there next to:
建築 - architecture
This last word i did see recently, i even confused it with 健康 - health
So some interesting words are somehow kept out of my practice for years by the complex random mechanism, while other words are popping up all the time...how many times i have seen my descendants, しそん or is it inviting me to sing: 歌手 or take a bath: よくそう this last one 35 encounters, 3 wrong (i think this is my record encounter word).
Reading http://www3.nhk.or.jp/news/easy/ a lot now, i see the words i learnt are indeed the words which are useful to learn...(well maybe not the sumo referee 行司, but i can imagine, in Japan, this is a very important word...)
