- I'm quite surprised about the random switch from Verdana to Meiryo for English text. Japanese text was Meiryo before, so no change there.
People usually say that Meiryo font looks strange for English text and avoid it. However, I use Meiryo for English often on my system, so the change doesn't look odd for me and was barely noticeable. I'm not sure what the reasoning behind this change was though? JCJP has been Verdana for such a long time.
There are some other cool changes I've noticed too though. Some of them are things me and Beeant discussed when we met a couple of times in Tokyo, but there are some surprises too:
"Latest Vocabulary Encounters" appearing on the Practice page was pretty neat surprise. The new style hiragana and katakana lessons seem to have been implemented pretty well. And I notice some minor changes (like "Topics" on the menu has moved to the "Miscellaneous" category). And there have been a lot of (mostly good) changes to spellings thanks to JACKBOSMA's many reports.
But the most important change on JCJP is slightly less obvious. The main thing I brought up in our discussion was profile loading time problems, where each Reading quiz causes a profile page to take increasingly longer to load, until it is can no longer load ever again (i.e. Kekkou's profile). Beeant managed to make the change to profile page loading without removing any of the content, which is very cool. Now we can do Readings quizzes as much as we like without any worry of negative side effects to our profile pages. ^^October 29, 2015 at 12:57am
