Do you guys have any other suggestions as to learning the actual Japanese language's structure other than Tae Kim's grammar guide?

Textbooks. I think it's best to learn grammar through textbooks like Genki, An Integrated Approach to Learning Japanese, and Tobira. I also use FluentU, which helps a lot

Tae Kim's guide to Japanese grammar.

    jk :P

That Tobira textbook looks nice, it's aimed at intermediate to advanced learners. I don't know think I know any other one like it, got me interested.

    This book: http://www.amazon.com/Japanese-Sentence-Patterns-Effective-Communication/dp/1568364202

It's great because it's simple, if you can get those sentence patterns down, you can work out a lot of sentences on your own. It's been the most helpful to me. As my vocabulary increases, I can use what I've learned in that book to communicate a lot better. Lang-8 also helps, because it's natives and they will quickly point out any major flaws.

The "Let's Learn Japanese" series (this one is old/ from the 80's but nice and easy to understand), and..
