Speaking of Tofugu, there was this article I wanted to mention a while back:
http://www.tofugu.com/2012/01/31/10-things-i-wish-i-knew-about-japanese-learning-when-i-was-first-starting-out/

I've already slowly come to pretty much all the same conclusions, over the years I've been learning Japanese. It's nice to read an article with so much I can relate to and agree so strongly with. It mentions about SRS (like what is now used in JCJP Practice), mnemonics (like Slime Forest makes good use of), and important points about memorisation (recalling from memory). And I like what he says about writing by hand. :P

I get the feeling that any attempt to teach beginners not to make your mistakes falls on deaf ears, though it is certainly a noble cause. I imagine many times that new learners are Sisyphus, cursed to push the rock up the mountain once again before they can stand on the shoulders of giants.
