- There are a few different Japanese IME softwares. Also, people type with different devices such as using computer keyboards or using mobile phone touchscreens. And it depends what way you have the software set up — such as which option for input mode you have chosen for typing kana (romaji input or kana input or flick input...)
If you are using "Google Japanese Input" on a Windows PC, your "Keymap Style" setting is set to the default "MS-IME", your "Romaji Table" is still set to the defaults, and your "Input Mode" for typing kana is set to the default "Romaji"... then you can write "hambaagaa" in katakana by pressing the following eight keys on your keyboard:
H A N B A - G A -
(the "-" key is your hyphen key or minus key)
So far it should look like this, still in hiragana: はんばーがー
Next, press your "F7" key on your keyboard to convert what you typed into katakana: ハンバーガーFebruary 29, 2016 at 12:49am - Oh wait, don't use the minus key on your numpad for trying to type the ー symbol, because it will output the wrong symbol (an actual "-" minus symbol instead of a "ー" long vowel kana symbol)... It's been a long time since I used romaji input mode. ^^;
Only use the hyphen key (next to "0" key and near the "Backspace" key, on most keyboards), not the numpad minus key.February 29, 2016 at 1:03am - ― thanks got it:)
