If you see a kanji with several readings, don't memorize all the onyomi and kunyomi readings for it, it would be a waste of time. Remember that onyomi are typically short, while kunyomi can be longer and that kunyomi is used when a kanji is by itself, while onyomi are usually used in compounds. If you have the add-on Rikai-chan (Firefox) or Rikaikun (Chrome), it can really help :)
