My advice would be to not focus on the readings and try to learn the vocabulary associated with them. Some people would (and likely will) argue against that.
Some kanji have so many readings that you'll just get overwhelmed and get frustrated. If you haven't checked out WaniKani you might want to.. I personally don't care for it particularly but it's likely because I learned a lot of Kanji before starting the program. If you're a beginner you might want to give it a try.
There is no right or wrong way to learn Kanji, just the way that works for you. It took me a lot of trial and error to figure out what works for me.. Just stick with it!

I can definitely relate to your problem. I don't find this website too much good for learning kanji; I often find that the vocab shows an answer that is apparently wrong during the test. I don't mean to advertise any websites but I truly find this one good for kanji - linguti. It shows vocabulary but also shows the kanji and the way it works helps me a lot with kanji, at least. I still find this website good with everything else though!! :) (Plus this place shows you how to write the kanji :3)

My method is thinking of kanji as pictures. When I write them I think of what it could represent and after I write it a bunch of times with that same thought in my head, I find it a lot easier to remember. Kanji is very hard and even Japan makes students write and write and write kanji until they remember it. I'm not saying that's the only way but it's probably the easiest.
