Hi! Good evening! I'm just wondering.. Why do you want to learn Japanese?… - Feed Post by ZyKizumi16
Hi! Good evening!
I'm just wondering.. Why do you want to learn Japanese? Nihongo?
Me, my reason is that because I am studying here right now and next year I'm about to be a Senior High, so I need to learn how to construct a sentence and to read japanese without ease as soon as possible.
Any site/apps/game recommendations for me to improve my nihongo? Thank you in advance.

- I learned because I like languages and moved to Japan as an English teacher when I graduated from university. I then took intensive Japanese for two years in Japan. Now I'm married to a Japanese woman and my kids are 'hafu.' Learning Japanese (and other foreign languages) is one of the best decisions I've ever made! This website is my favorite for practicing and learning new vocabulary and kanji. Also, I just speak to Google in my phone when I don't know a word and ask it 'How do you say 'x' in Japanese. I wouldn't recommend Google translate for entire sentences though as sentence translations to Japanese are pretty bad.July 14, 2016 at 11:19pm
- Originally, it was because I wanted to better understand some of the games I love. That still holds true partially, but when I started learning, I realized how beautiful and interesting the language was and I just love how Japanese sounds, too.July 15, 2016 at 12:01am
- I used various apps and books and stuff to help me with my Japanese. I used the Genki books, they give good grammar lessons and teach some good vocab too. I currently use Anki app as a flashcard app to just review words. You can also download Tae Kims guide to learning japanese, that has alot of grammar explanation and vocab, and its free! If you want to practice kanji, a good app is kanji study, but if you want the full thing you need to buy it, but its only like 5 or 8 bucks, and its really good. The free version has 100 of the most common and easy kanji. I even go on youtube and watch videos, a group called nihongomori on youtube has tons of videos, and really good beginer videos too. And another youtuber thats good is Japanese in 5, he gives quick lessons from 5 to 10 minutes long. Just try everything! good luck!

@ZyKizumi16: the best two resources I can think of, to help you with learning to build sentences:
1. Tae Kim's guides
-grammar guide: http://www.guidetojapanese.org/learn/grammar
-the complete guide to Japanese: http://www.guidetojapanese.org/learn/complete
2. this video list (I've shared this here a few times already ;)) of super useful grammar lessons. This guy is such a good teacher (although he is not a certified teacher and might make mistakes. But I really, really, reaaaally like his videos) https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwGjqS2iLnwV1lBfUo6VuWmMaWUJnxLMK
There are many resources for learning vocabulary: Anki https://ankiweb.net/about , the flashcard system that @deadmo mentions. It's good for creating your own flashcards or using someone else's shared flashcards. Memrise www.memrise.com/ is good as well (multiple question choices + typing). Youtube has a load of videos on learning Japanese, of course.
Other stuff I can think of: I tried Wanikani https://www.wanikani.com/ but didn't like it :/ I found it a little restricting (you have to wait a certain amount of time before you can revise what you've learned, I didn't like that feature. You can try it for free and see if it works for you). There's Clozemaster https://www.clozemaster.com/ where you fill in the blank to finish the sentence - but it has a frustrating quality (in the typing mode, it doesn't accept your anwer if it's written in the "wrong way" - even if your answer is correct).
@ZyKizumi16, you're in Japan? since you're in the environment where there's Japanese constantly being spoken around you, I think learning will be so much easier than those of us who are elsewhere (said Acidron with a hint of jealousy xD). And you can get your hands on manga so easily - do you read manga? Best of luck of with your studies :)July 15, 2016 at 4:12am - I like Japanese media. I wanna understand what i am watching without subtitlesJuly 15, 2016 at 8:08pm
- i like reading japanese literature, manga, shows and martial artsJuly 15, 2016 at 10:48pm
- as for me... I thought that Japanese was the cutest language in the world, so I had to learn it ^w^July 15, 2016 at 11:04pm
- I even learned English to learn Japanese !! LOLJuly 15, 2016 at 11:06pm
- 仕事のためですから。July 16, 2016 at 1:24am
- I love Japanese culture :)July 16, 2016 at 3:43am
- Because I'm a dirty weeb!July 16, 2016 at 4:14am
- "Without ease"?
I'm learning it because I have a love/hate relationship with the writing system where I wanna read it all because it's so beautiful and know all the meanings! Yet I want to burn it because it's so dang hard... It's a complicated relationship. :/ Not to mention Japan has all the cool stuff and manners I can relate to so I wanna know the language of any country I would like to visit. (Like I would like to visit Spain if I learn Spanish one day or Italy if I learn Italian) I literally have no use for Japanese besides going to a country I might never go to... OH WELL!July 17, 2016 at 4:14pm - Oh I see. Thank you guys for all of your answers and recommendations.July 18, 2016 at 2:58pm
- Try HelloTalk, you can use it for language exchange. My crush and I call on a nightly basis lolJuly 18, 2016 at 3:37pm
- My goal is to watch anime without subs and read manga in original (also the novel of my favorite series (No.6) isn't translatet yet, so...) ^^
If you're still a beginner I recommend http://www.nhk.or.jp/lesson/english/
It's a good startup for bloody beginnersJuly 18, 2016 at 5:10pm - It's a nice language to hear, especially in anime. Plus it's a major language that's considerably difficult for English speakers. And finally, I love JP! 綺麗だよ?July 18, 2016 at 5:47pm
- @N3k0 Oh wow, didn't think that there is someone here who likes No.6! ^^ I also have the novels and am learning vocab here to get to the point where I can read it easier and not go crazy for having to check kanji dictionaries every five seconds, lol.July 19, 2016 at 5:31am
