- Never seen that expression before, but seems to me like you're correct.
行き(いき)is the 連用形 (continuative/conjunctive/infinitive/non-finite/adverbial/... form) of the verb 行く(いく)"to go".
違い(ちがい)again is the 連用形 of the verb 違う(ちがう)"to differ", which is a noun listed in dictionaries as meaning "difference, discrepancy".
With the 連用形 those two words combine making the following compound word noun:
行き違い(いきちがい, or ゆきちがい)"going astray, crossing without meeting; difference of opinion, estrangement".
Then, with の, that 行き違い describes the aspect of the word that follows:
運命(うんめい)is a noun meaning "fate, destiny"
So, 行き違いの運命 seems to be a phrase that means something along the lines of "a fate of crossing paths without meeting" or "a destiny of going astray"—a fate of estrangement. But I don't really know. :POctober 3, 2016 at 11:04pm - well thanks for the answer (Y)October 4, 2016 at 10:11pm
- 行き違い could also be read as misunderstanding, so I think I would translate this as "a fate of misunderstandings". It could be a poetic title or a manga/anime title (I have no idea, just guessing) ;)
@jihan19, what's the context, where did this sentence come from?October 4, 2016 at 10:23pm - @Acidron it comes from a song, well i think the previous lyric isn't related but the following lyrics are 離れてゆくことも 知りながら また歩くOctober 5, 2016 at 6:08pm
- @jihan19 Would you like to share which song and who performs it (if you don't want to, that's completely ok, I'm just curious about what kind of music this is). This following line I'd translate as something along the lines of "while knowing I/you/we am/are moving towards separate directions, I continue to walk" (with a tone of "although I know we're going to drift apart, I'm going anyway"). How would you translate it?October 5, 2016 at 8:27pm
- Oh, apparently looks like it's part of the lyrics of an ending song used in the anime Re:ZERO. I thought it was probably part of the lyrics of a song when I saw the original post. It's sung by one of the voice actresses in that anime, Rie Takahashi and is titled "Stay Alive".

↑Not too hard to find fan videos with English translations of the lyrics either, translated as "our fates have become misaligned" by this fan translation. ^^October 5, 2016 at 9:07pm - @mog86uk thanks for the linkie! :DOctober 7, 2016 at 12:26am
- @mog86uk well i know, but english translation on internet seems not trust worthy. I've read many songs lyric but sometimes they add some words that isn't necessary just to make it poetic and there's always a translation error, then i came here to make sure about my own translationOctober 8, 2016 at 2:13am
- Yeah, there were extra unnecessary words added in that video's translation too. It does make it much more clear than my attempt at a literal translation, but, from a learning Japanese perspective, I think it's nicer to have literal translations (no matter how unnatural the English sounds). ^^

↑ I wish all Japanese music videos were translated the way this one is, with 4~5 different subtitles all at the same time:
・Japanese lyrics (kana+kanji)
・Transliteration (romaji - good for those not learning Japanese)
・Normal English translation
・"Free" English translation
・"Literal" English translation
And the English parts to the song have subtitles for both the English itself and backwards translation into Japanese.October 8, 2016 at 5:54am - @mog86uk after watched the video, i started to wish the same thing (笑)October 8, 2016 at 10:28pm
