- Also the kyoiku kanji(kanji by grade) only has 1000 kanji whats with that?
January 13, 2017 at 1:42pm - I might suggest you to start with hiragana and katakana because kanji is the most hardest to 'learn' and even japanese people have trouble with it :)January 13, 2017 at 3:41pm
- Kyōiku kanji is only taught in primary school. Kyōiku kanji teaches 1,006 kanji.
Jōyō kanji is taught in secondary school (high school). Jōyō kanji adds an additional 1,130 kanji.
According to wikipedia, these are considered the commonly used kanji.
This is determined by Japanese Ministry of Education.

- Neko110, the two sets of kanji I listed are just what the Japanese Ministry of Education feels students need to learn in primary and secondary schools.
