Does anyone know where I can find and download different fonts for Japanese characters? I tried taking some notes on a document, but all the default fonts make everything kind of ugly and awkward to read. I have found a couple decent and easy to read fonts but it doesn't change Katakana. I'm just not really sure where to look.

If the fonts you've tried haven't changed katakana, then they are probably Chinese fonts not Japanese. This will also mean some of the kanji will be drawn incorrectly Japanese, as some Chinese characters are drawn differently between Chinese and Japanese.

Have you tried the Japanese font "Meiryo" which has come with all Windows since Windows XP? This is the font which JapaneseClass.jp here uses. It's designed to be clear and easy to read at small font sizes.

↑If you want a much larger choice of Japanese fonts though, the main site I've used and highly recommend is this one. There was another site I used that has some very nice fonts, but I can't remember it right now. I used to have over 100 custom Japanese fonts installed on when I was on Windows 7. ^^

Oh! I've remembered the site now:
    http://www.ac-font.com/jp/

It has very good quality Japanese fonts (their unique selection of English fonts are worth checking out too), but in order to download from there you first have to register an account on the site. It is free, just that the site and registration process is completely in Japanese.

Oh, I'll have to book mark those, but thanks for telling me about Meiryo, I don't know how I managed but I guess I overlooked it when I was cycling between the font options, thanks again Mogster.
