Google Japanese Input allows you to use Japanese emoticons. These emoticons in Japanese are called 顔文字 "kaomoji".

If you have it installed, type "kaomoji" in hiragana かおもじ then press space. It has a list of like 740 emoticons you can chose from. (^_-)-☆
