    I was interested in this 'tsuru' too. Looks like Urban Dictionary actually has a decent answer:

    つるつる is a mimetic adverb meaning 'smooth, sleek, slick, slippery', so I guess this might be where the ツル comes from?

    There's a sentence in the Tatoeba database where つるつる is used for smooth heads (as in baldness):

    Hmm, I just noticed that the answer on Urban Dictionary has the exact phrase your wrote: 'Pettan, pettan, tsurupettan!' ...strange coincidence?

    I should also probably mention that I mean answer #2 on the Urban Dictionary link. There's more than one answer on the page... I'm not on about that stupid first answer... :P
