Hey beeant I finally got around to finishing my "new" section... whew :3
Also I was thinking about adding an option to no longer see certain question over a certain viewing? I have this one question for example that I now have 150 correct answer on, and then lots that I've only seen once.

- It would be cool if you could type in the max number of times correct, to make it show questions higher than this value as oblivion encounters only. So then you would only get bugged by questions you've answered 100 times once every 30 days. :)November 26, 2014 at 1:31am
- Congratulations! :)
i try not to implement a lot of settings or options on JCJP. If I implement one, there might be a necessity to add some more. Adding these settings would make JCJP difficult to use, especially for newcomers. But gamers would love this though.
Something like 100 times for each vocabulary every 30 days would be good I think. What do you think?November 26, 2014 at 1:39am - Though options are optional due to default settings aren't they? People who got used to the website then can go through the settings if they want. Or as an alternative... something new... unlocking settings when you come across the respective feature xDNovember 26, 2014 at 9:38am
- As this was Minty's suggestion, I was waiting to give him a chance to answer first.
I think 100 might be too high, but it would be a good start. I think the bigger issue is with the frequency of encountering the same question. When the beta started, some users reported that the encounter rates seemed to have changed. I don't remember previous version JCJP constantly hassling you over a hundred tiimes with the same question, just for answering it wrong a couple of times.
There were questions I'd answered wrong lots of times in previous version JCJP, and I didn't encounter these too often. But when I started on the beta and on new version JCJP, I had to repeatedly answer all the questions I'd previously made mistakes on until new JCJP calmed down and was happy.
Now on new JCJP, after answering a question wrong, it isn't uncommon to encounter that question 4-5 times in a row! back-to-back!
As for the suggestion though, I think it would definitely be nicer if we could choose a specific value, maybe between limited to between 30-100. Could be implemented as a slider: minimum = 30, scaling up to 99, with the maximum = "off" (default setting).November 26, 2014 at 10:48am - @beeant That's a good point, I didn't really think about it making things more confusing. I think a variable would be nice as well.
I don't know how the weighting of questions work internally but maybe once a question gets answered 30 times you could give it a modifier to show up less? Then users wouldn't have to worry about learning how to use the option it would just be an automatic thing. Just an idea.
Also as a gamer myself I love seeing all the stats and tweaking things so your totally right there :3
GreenyNeko's idea could work as well, maybe you only unlock the option once you've got to level 6 or something?
@mog86uk The slider option sounds good, but what if you still wanted to see some of the questions even though you answered them 30 times? Would they have to be done individually?
Well anyway it was just an idea ^^November 26, 2014 at 1:39pm - I personally would love to have this setting. However, I can imagine adding it to the settings box might be awkward and make it look overcomplicated.
If the encounter rate formula was changed to make it closer to how it was in previous JCJP, that would probably solve most of the problem without a setting.
@MintyHippo Any questions you've previously answered correct 30 times are probably not the type of questions you'd want to answer on a daily basis. It would be better to be tested on them at longer 30 day intervals, as this should be better memory training. You will still have to encounter the words as oblivion encounters when 30 days have passed. This is the same with the "level" settings, which don't stop oblivion encounters from other levels. :)November 26, 2014 at 2:16pm - I think this would be a good idea:
Make it so "excellent" vocabulary encounters only show up as Oblivion questions. Then change the "excellent" tag on questions from 100% correct to something like 90%.
For this to work, would probably need to make "excellent" only apply after answering the question 10 times. Because if the question has been answered correct on the first encounter due to luck, it would be bad to have to wait 30 days to re-encounter it.
Next, remove the 29 times correct answer limt on awarding EXP, as people are only going to be encountering "excellent" words once every 30 days anyway.
Once the user has no "good"/oblivion/weak/new questions remaining, then the "excellent" questions can be encountered normally (without the 30 day oblivion interval), but this should be a challenging feat to accomplish. Maybe award half EXP for "excellent" questions encountered in this situation, to encourage the user to use other features insead of Practice. The user should still get a lot of oblivion items each day to earn normal rate EXP on.
Then with level 7 and onwards added, I think this would work really well and keep people busy. ^^
Sorry for the long post. Got carried away with my dreaming! :DNovember 26, 2014 at 3:04pm - I really like that idea, not only does it solve the problem of adding it as an option, but it also would make it feesable to reach excellent mark once you've lost it. It would definitely take a lot of work to implement though.
Since you mentioned it, why does reading return so little compared to practice?November 26, 2014 at 5:02pm - I don't think it gives less, it gives differently. It's kinda like learning japanese from manga: you'll learn common word usage and grammar, but much less vocabulary. Headbanging practice instead gives only vocabulary, which is by far the most important item in language learning (imho)... this is why I combo this site, anki and and a mobile app. I've learned so much in two months that i'm sad i couldn't find these things before.November 27, 2014 at 6:54pm
- Though it would still be good to have all in one place, all in one package and all in one style. (And oh my god xP and leveling for grammar, dream come true or sth. like that xD)November 28, 2014 at 3:37am
