What's the kanji for like?

I'm trying to learn basic sentences.

The sentence I'm trying to construct, I like dogs.

Wouldn't that be: 私は犬__? (the blank is the missing kanji)

If that sentence is wrong, please enlighten me. I have the worst grammar there is, even in English......

    I think it would be:
    私は犬が好き。
    が (ga) for the object
and 好き for "liking something, be fond of something"

    好き (suki)

It would be "watashi wa inu ga suki desu" "私は犬が好です" or just "inu ga suki" "犬が好"Or if you want to be like "oooohh i love dogs!" you can say "えええ!犬がだい好です"

Japanese is so different from english so that question is hard to answer... Japanese is situational based (I dont know what its really called) meaning that you only say the things necessary for the listener to understand the message. So you can say 私は犬が好き to be really clear, but 犬が好き or 犬は好きis often fin because the listener probably understand that you're talking about yourself. You would even able to just say 好き is the listener know you're talking about dogs.

As Mangan said, Japanese is not English. 私は犬が好き is not incorrect. If the listener knows you're talking about yourself, you don't even need 私. If you're speaking informally, that's perfectly fine.

The difference between wa and ga is a complex one. I don't fully understand it, even after being here for almost 6 years. There's a certain nuance between 犬が好きです and 犬は好きです. The former I would say is a definitive statement. I like dogs. The latter, on the other hand, is more you're omitting the rest of the sentence. So it'd be more like, I like dogs, as opposed to cats or other animals.

Ga is an identifier particle, Wa is a topic particle, so to keep it simple I just think of them just like that. If I want to identify something I use Ga. It might not be entirely correct, but on the level Im at it definitely works fine :)
