This is so hard, I'm a complete beginner and I don't know what to do to figure out what all of these symbols mean. I can pronounce them half decently and I'm beginning to memorize them but I just don't understand how I'm supposed to learn how to read them and put them together. This is so frustrating, I could use some serious help.

    Hi Austindesu,

Try something like 'http://unckel.de/kanateacher/index-en.html' or the tool inside Japaneseclass.jp for learning hiragana and katakana. It takes time to really solidify which noises correspond to each hiragana / katakana - frustration is inevitable! You'll get there eventually though, never give up!

yes never give up! that's the key! okay im a beginner too haha

Are you currently learning the Hiragana and Katakana? These are just like the English alphabet in that they are just sounds; they don't mean anything.

Like when you were a kid learning to read English: you had to learn the alphabet (letters with no meanings, just sounds) before you can move on to learning words. So it's the same with learning to read Japanese: you have to learn hiragana and katakana (symbols with no meanings, just sounds) before you can move on to learning words and kanji. ^^

I think that the problem of Austindesu7(well, at least for me as a beginner) is more like: spaces between words. Or rather their absence. But with more practice you can actually see where one word ends and the other begins.
P.S. this site is really good at building your vocabulary. But I do recommend you to use some other source for grammar.

Any recommendations for sites that apply the grammar rules?

Mog86uk so it is how I thought it is going to teach me, and to all the others no way I'm going to give up. Thank you so much for your support. at some point in my life I want to move to Japan and live there for a while, so I can't really afford to give up. This is my dream and I AM going to make it happen. This is the most beautiful language I've ever heard in my life and how I can't wait till I can speak it for myself.

Oh and one more thing, I have been using the tool to teach me hiragana every night but it's hard not over load myself

For grammar, everyone's going to suggest Tae Kim's guide, so I might as well save you the wait and post the link:

Also, for more help with learning kana (hiragana and katakana), people were also talking about it on this post:

Do. Not. Desperate. If you don't have a strong will to learn, you will not learn a language that has nothing to do with yours.
Practice is what you need. A lot of writing practice. Even if it is slow, you can do it.
Also, speaking it is fairly easy, your spoken Japanese should always be way better than your written Japanese so you can try reading beginner texts with furigana as soon as you have basic vocabulary.
