    I know what you mean. Using this site is helpful for recognising Japanese when you are reading or hearing it. However, when you try to speak or write in Japanese yourself, it often doesn seem to help that much at all.

    Obviously, grammar is an issue for composing your own sentence. But even if we're only talking about vocabulary, there seems to be a problem finding the vocabulary in your memory.

    This is part of the reason why I made my typing mod for the Practice feature on this site. It makes it so you can't see any answer options, and have to remember completely from your memory. This mod is helping me a little bit with the issue you're talking about.

    I think the important thing is just to keep trying to speak and write it; just practice speaking and writing Japanese as much as you can. This should help your mind get more used to having to recall vocabulary completely from memory. Then it should get easier when you need to do this with new vocabulary you learn.

    Also, keep trying to read and listen to Japanese conversations on Japanese TV, websites, blogs, video games, etc. If you hear or see how the words are used in sentences in everyday language, and get used to seeing what words are most commonly used, you should get better at remembering situations where you've seen someone talking in Japanese about the same thing you are trying to talk about.

    I try to do all that a little bit, yet I'm still pretty bad at recalling Japanese vocabulary when I need it. So maybe it's not great advice, haha... ^^;

    I try to keep my eyes near the top of the screen and recall the word from memory before looking at the options listed. That helps me. Then, in conversation, when I'm searching for the word I want, it's the same as how I am using the website. Does this make sense?
