It was in the previous version of JCJP, but was removed in this current version which was released in April last year.
If you're interested, I've made my own improved version of that feature, which I showed off in the following post. ^^

- Wanikani uses typing if you prefer that.May 4, 2015 at 12:13am
- @mog86uk: Yep those. Do you still have the mod?
@jimhaku: I just applied for the beta. I'll try it out if I get in XDMay 4, 2015 at 12:33am - I use my typing mod all the time on Practice on here now. It's not quite the same as the original typing answers feature, since that feature didn't actually hide the four answer choices, making it kind of pointless. There are a few other differences too, like it not accepting romaji (you have to type Japanese the proper way).
My mod is designed to make Practice a lot more challenging, it's intended to be like a "hard mode". I wouldn't really recommend it to users who haven't used JCJP for a long time. It's more for people who have completed all the Lessons and are finding Practice too easy. It has helped me a lot with learning the stuff I wasn't paying attention to before, like the exact readings of vocabulary words. And it confirms whether you've truly learnt all the questions on this site properly, with no mutliple choice to fall back on.
I didn't want to just upload it somewhere for everyone to download, because I wasn't certain whether Beeant would be okay with this. However, it sounded like he liked the idea of the mod, so I think it should be fine.
I don't mind sharing the mod with everyone. So far I've only emailed it to a couple of other users and to Beeant. I need to figure out the best way to upload it and probably will need to explain quite a bit about how to make it work. I haven't completely decided, but I'll probably post it on here in the next few days. ^^May 4, 2015 at 1:12am - great! I'm looking forward to trying it out then.May 4, 2015 at 1:15am

- I'm not sure why that site is still in beta, it's a couple years old. Just an email should get you in. It uses it's own system, so it's most helpful if you are a beginner. It takes me forever to clear a level just b/c typos of typos, it's a little frustrating.May 4, 2015 at 1:27am
- typos of typos, that's what I'm talking about.May 4, 2015 at 1:28am
- Oh yeah. Wanikani is THAT site. Forgot about that one. It's such a cool website design and a really neat idea, but it annoys me like crazy with how long it keeps making me wait between sessions, when I'm just trying to get through the material I already know. I get bored of using it very quickly and then forget that the site exists...May 4, 2015 at 2:00am
- mog86uk, I want to try out your mods too, please do share them with us! :DMay 4, 2015 at 2:14am
- @beee_17, Yeah, you're one of the people I considered sending it to originally, since you're probably at the stage where you might appreciate more of a challenge.
I'm always really tired on Sundays, often having to go back to sleep during the afternoon. I kind of want to make the mod a little better before uploading it, but in my view it is near perfect already so I probably won't change anything. I just managed to answer 100 completely random Practice questions in 11 minutes 55 seconds while using my mod. I'm trying to reach a target of 10 minutes to type 100 answers! :P
But anyway, if I try to post the mod today, I'll probably forget something major and make a mess of things. ^^;May 4, 2015 at 2:31am - @mog You're right, I'm at the point where I did so much practice, that I sometimes I just answer automatically or choose by process of elimination, without even knowing the meaning of the kanji/word x.x This will probably break my combos for a while but, well, at least I'll actually learn xD
But no hurries, I'm sure that this will help a lot the community :DMay 4, 2015 at 6:31am - Wanikani is fine, but there's enough options for SRS out there for me to instantly deny one that wants that much money for the service when there's services as good or better for free. Not that I wouldn't pay for something that completely wowed me, but it would have to be something that did a bang up job of teaching all parts of Japanese learning, and there's nothing quite there yet.May 8, 2015 at 1:45pm
- I forgot Wanikani was a paid service, it took me over a year to clear the free levels, so I lost interest.May 9, 2015 at 3:26am
