Anyone here learning another language besides Japanese or has aspirations of learning another language other than Japanese?
I'm learning French and Korean. I took French for four years back when I was in school. It's also quite close in terms of vocabulary to my mother tongue, so I decided to pick it up again. Since I know Japanese pretty well, I decided to learn Korean in Japanese because I heard their grammar structures and some words are similar. For the most part, it's true.
One thing I really like about Korean is the instant gratification you get after learning its alphabet, hangul. Other than a couple (more like several:( ) of pronunciation exceptions, I would say one could read about 80% of what's on The Korean Times website. Albeit, you wouldn't know what you're reading, but I find that pretty cool.
I don't know if I'll become proficient in either language, but I figure it's a great workout for my brain so why not? :)
