Anyone here learning another language besides Japanese or has aspirations of learning another language other than Japanese?

I'm learning French and Korean. I took French for four years back when I was in school. It's also quite close in terms of vocabulary to my mother tongue, so I decided to pick it up again. Since I know Japanese pretty well, I decided to learn Korean in Japanese because I heard their grammar structures and some words are similar. For the most part, it's true.

One thing I really like about Korean is the instant gratification you get after learning its alphabet, hangul. Other than a couple (more like several:( ) of pronunciation exceptions, I would say one could read about 80% of what's on The Korean Times website. Albeit, you wouldn't know what you're reading, but I find that pretty cool.

I don't know if I'll become proficient in either language, but I figure it's a great workout for my brain so why not? :)

    I attended a Korean class but I later quit because I couldn't understand the writing system at all.

    Not 'learning' but yeah I'll do learn other languages vocationally until I get enough proficient in Japanese. I'm thinking to take Mandarin, that Kanji knowledge would be quite helpful (I hope :")

    Actually i was going to learning Korean before learning Japanese. I think it's interesting to know many foreign languages. So when i become fluent in Japanese or have enough time, i'll think about learning Korean and others ^^

    Learning more than one foreign language at a time sounds pretty crazy. It's hard and time consuming enough just learning Japanese on its own.

    I don't think I'll ever try to learn another language properly besides Japanese. I did try to learn Polish several years back but I didn't have a long term purpose behind learning it. Once the initial reason disappeared I quickly lost motivation, stopped learning, and have now forgotten mostly everything.

    That said, I do intend to try to learn a few more alphabets/syllabaries. It would be pretty neat to at least be able to understand that much of a language. After doing hiragana and katakana, I don't think it would be too difficult to try to pick up some more in a similar manner.

    I've already half-heartedly tried to learn the alphabets for Greek and Hebrew, so I'll go back to finishing those first. Then the next ones I plan to learn are Arabic, Hangul, and Cyrillic.

    @thebigfan: Really? In what way didn't you understand it? I'm just curious.

    @Waddia: I say definitely focus on studying Japanese. When you reach a certain level of proficiency, it'll be easier to take some time off to keep your sanity, lol.

    @HuongHitachi: It also becomes easier to study language after becoming proficient in one because you can apply the method you used to study Japanese to study another language.

    @mog: As you know, learning Japanese is what I would say is a lifetime investment. Being here has allowed me to get by with passively learning the language. For now, I just allocate about 30 mins a day for each French and Korean. I don't necessarily have any goals other than to try to study every day, so I guess that helps.

    Having real concrete goals helps. I don't think I'll ever have the same initial motivation I had for Japanese with any other language. That drive is definitely what kept me going through the hard times.

    I think the sky is the limit! The only limitation is the one you put on yourself!

    @KenjiSama: Sounds good!

    I used to learn a little bit of Italian, Spanish and Latin. The verb tenses of those languages are ridiculously difficult.

    I couldn't understand how to read the hungul. I didn't get the vowels and consonants either.
