Is my translation of these lyrics good?「何十年先も君を友達って思ってる」what I came with was - "at what decade did you start thinking" (of becoming my friend?). - Context is later in the song.

And also -「辛い時は何でも話してよ」"it was a bad time but you spoke" - this one Is chained with the last sentence.

Was there any flaws in these translations? I'm trying to make my brain understand or at least translate Japanese sentences correctly.

Also, why is there "って" after "友達"?

少し習ったから、俺の訳すのこちらが簡単と思ってる。手伝ってくれ。At what decade did you start thinking?: どの一昔前が友になるについて初めておもった?
It was a bad time but you spoke: 悪い時だけどあなたが話したよ。
Google translate demolishes my intended meaning, but I assume that dono can work with hitomukashi mae, and also that dakedo can be used like that, お返事をください。

ってる to be but って looks like a particle.

まってる to be waiting and まって wait.

    って used for emphasis.

@jarredwebb90, Aristide is asking about a translation of a Japanese song into English, rather than the other way round. You might have wanted to use だったけど rather than だけど though, since you were talking about a time that "was" bad rather than "is" bad? ^^

@JACKBOSMA, Aristide asked about only the って following the noun 友達, not also about the てる following the verb 思う (思い+て = おもって; 思って+いる is often colloquially contracted to 思ってる). You are right that って can be used for emphasis, but I don't think that's quite the particular way it's being used in those lyrics.

When you first learn about using the verb 思う (おもう) "to think", you mainly learn to use it along with the と case particle:

    [what it is that's being thought]+と + 思う/思います

In the case of these lyrics, it would look as though there is no と particle being used. However, って (originally from a shortening of と+いう) is commonly used in casual speech for the same purpose as just the と particle. I think this usage is how it is being used in those lyrics.

[of whom or of what the thought is]+を [the thought]+と/って 思う
    君(you)+を 友達(friend)+って 思う(think)

君を友達って思ってる = thinking of you as a friend

Hello! Am I being weird, I'd translate those lines something like this (not being literal with it but trying to catch the message):
    - several tens of years I've thought of you as a friend (and am still thinking, that's why the -teiru -form). In bad times, you say anything/everything...

Song and lyrics, where are these lines from?

As to why is there "って" after "友達", I've learned that -tte acts like quotation marks in speech. Don't remember where I've learned this though, so I might be wrong as well. Aren't I helpful and lovely xD

You are correct, quotation and emphasis.

My apologies, I've taken a long break over the site for personal reasons. Really appreciate the feedback!
