  I think the difference probably has a lot to do with the fact that the first one contains the kanji for "profit/advantage/benefit", 利.

  Oh, so the 2nd one is for general use then while the 1st one is used when we take advantage of something/someone huh?

  ↑Somehow I don't think I've ever come across this site before. It's in Japanese but it answers your question perfectly. It's worth trying to read the whole 説明 section. ^^

  ↑For finding Japanese answers these types of quesitons on Google, this is the normal way to do it. Replace the blanks with the words you want to know the difference between. I've used this search many times before, so I'm surprised I've never noticed that chigai.org site which seems to be dedicated to these types of questions.. o.O
