@beee, That's great news! Congratulations!! I was wondering how much longer it was until results day, as I knew it was in January. Are you aiming for N1 now?

    @Yoshipon, Congrats on N5. ^^

Hope it goes well for anyone else about to look at their results.

@mog Thanks man! Not for now, I think. N2 is the level that is usually required for you to work and live there, and that was what I was aiming for. And I didn't exactly ace the test, it was pretty close actually, so I don't think I would pass the N1 even if I took at the end of this year. But someday, who knows? :P

@Yoshipon Congrats dude! That's it, never stop studying :D

I think N2 to N1 is more like a two year distance. As far as I understand, it's quite a different ballgame compared to the gaps between the any of the lower levels.

If they hadn't changed from having four JLPT levels (4級~1級) to having five (N5~N1), then N2 (2級) would still be a very steep climb from the level before it. N3 is pretty much the level they added, basically becoming a 2.5級. I think it might've been a good idea if they'd also added a level inbetween 2級 and 1級, so that there could at least be a half-way point to aim towards. Good luck if you do decide to start on the mountainous amount of studying required for N1. ^^

    Congrats!
I failed N1 but I'm gonna study harder and actually use the textbooks I purchased but haven't finished yet.

@Wiggly, Sorry to hear that. It was your second time doing N1, right? Were you close this time, or still some way to go?

Other people I've talked to had to do N1 a few times before managing to pass it, even though when they were doing lower levels they passed first time. I remember Koukyoshi on here telling me about it. He'd already been living and working in Japan for something like 6 years when he didn't pass that time. He's one of the two people on here who I happened to meet up with during my trip in Japan and he spoke Japanese with ease.

Yea it was my second time. And I wasn't very close unfortunately. I actually did a little worse on the language knowledge and reading sections but my listening improvement made up for it and allowed me to increase the overall score compared to the first time.
The thing about N1 is they can pull words and reading passages from almost anything ever printed in the modern language. So even if you memorize a whole N1 vocabulary textbook you could get an unlucky draw of words on the exam and have very few vocab questions that you're 100% confident about. From my experience passing N5-N2, if you master a vocab and kanji textbook for that level you should be safe for the exam. That's absolutely not the case with N1.
The first time I took N1 I actually felt confident with quite a few of the vocab questions. This time I got unlucky with the selection and found myself outright guessing on too many of them.

N1 looks like the godzilla of the tests ((゚□゚;))

Congrats!! (tell me your secrets ;v;)

Congrats guys! I hope i will get there one day too =D
  • beee_17
    Thanks guys!

@wiggly I'm sorry to hear that. Man, it's just like mog said, N1 is a whole different beast. I think there's some truth to those rumors that even some natives can't pass it...

@Alyric No secrets! hahah Only study, and a whole lot of anime, manga, dramas, movies and music! :p
