When you say "lesson 1" it sounds like you mean chapter 1, which would be extremely slow progress! :D
I know what you mean though - almost completed all the level 1 chapters. Good work, keep up the steady progress! :)
wait does that mean I'm not lagging behind? I mean when I look at it, it would take me 6 months just to learn the vocabulary.......- I wouldn't think of it as lagging behind or not. It's hard to tell how thoroughly different people are taking in what they are learning.
You said you were also writing down on paper the stuff you're learning? It might seem like you're learning slower than other users, but maybe you're taking in more of what you're learning by the slower pace method you've chosen.
I guess in the beginning level lessons, people are going a bit slower because they're also still getting used to reading hiragana and katakana. By the time you complete all 60 chapters you'll probably be able to read hiragana and katakana symbols almost as effortlessly as reading the English alphabet.
So the first lessons will be slower, but you'll probably speed up more once you're used to doing it regularly. HOWEVER the lessons also get a LOT longer in some of the later levels. Level 5 chapters are rather brutal compared to the other levels. I haven't done the lessons for level 5 yet, but those ones look pretty tedious...

Ive been on this site almost a year and I basically only do the attendance each day. So it takes a long time for me and I might not learn it as well as you do if you write things down all the time. Dont worry about the pace, just keep the good work going and enjoy learning the language!
I just got to level 5 and the chapters here are scary... it doubled compared to level 4... 115 in one vocab chapter... scary...- 1...1...15.... WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Yeah, but thats just one chapter, the rest has about half as many vocab, and the kanji chapters has still about 20 each chapter. So its not that bad :)
