kore wa nan desuka
terry use sore, not kore...- lol it can be kore as well sore is like is, but really kore wa nan desuka means what is that and sore wa nan desuka means what is this so you can say it either way.
- Kore means "this", as in something close to the speaker. Sore is "that", which is something further away from the speaker. You cannot use both in the same circumstance, any more than you should be using this and/or that at the same time.

- No worries, but when referring to something that is closer to the other person you are speaking to, as is definitely the case with the picture of Kenji's dango - unless you somehow happened to be closer to them than HE is - you would use "sore" or "that".
