I tried language shadowing with my textbook. The first time, I failed horribly!! I couldn't keep up :(.

Then, I read through it three times, going faster each time. I tried shadowing with the tape again, and I was going a little faster than the guy.....:p he was talking slow though....

Try shadowing.....I think it improved my fluidly (erm, fluid ness?, I dunno) in speaking and reading. I also comprehended the passage more....

My gods...my English has gotten worse..xD

I also tried to read Hellsing.....yeah..no...

Fluidity. As for reading Hellsing, that's going to be a bit much from the get go. You should definitely be able to have a go at Doraemon or Shin-chan, though. Keep it up! Stuff like Hellsing or Bleach or whatever is also bound to have a lot of story-specific words that can throw you off. For example, if the word for "lightsaber" was different in a Japanese Star Wars novel, I might waste time looking that up, not finding it in a dictionary, and eventually finding out that it was something you have to Google for.

Sometimes Google image search is the easiest way to look up the meaning of Japanese words not in dictionaries. ^^

Easier, sure. But the Japanese fan base anime dictionaries can give you reading practice. :P

Kid stories bore the heck out of me.....I don't read stuff that's boring...

Enjoy high school, and better yet, college, then. :P Sometimes you have to read boring things. Can't be helped.

Is Shin-chan manga really aimed at kids? o.O It's on Crunchyroll, but sadly you can't disable the English text unlike how you can turn of subs on their anime. I can imagine it should be fairly good for beginners to try and read. I'd read it, but it's not something I'd pay for to import here though...

Shin-chan is meant for kids, actually, but adults read it too. Parents would prefer their kids like Doraemon as opposed to Shin-chan, but...
