  Odd....I just checked the anime, and he just pronounced it as いあ.... Printing error? Or what??

  The あ with the dakuten (?) means it's like a growled sound, kind of. More like "ahgh" than "ah".
  
  It's kinda hard to do quietly.

  Interesting, voicing a vowel. I don't remember seeing it before either. I guess with the fact he is eating and almost choking on his food, it would be odd if it still showed him speaking clearly. I think it's like what Rokvir said, a guttural sound.
