"What Japanese kids want to be in the future?" chart of boys
What a realistic result.
The No.1 is company employee which is called to be salary man in Japanese English.
No.4 public worker (government worker) is also a very realistic job along with company employee.
No.3 doctor has always been popular future dream among Japanese kids, because it is well paid and also meaningful job.
No.2 and No.5 are the most good "childish" dream which are soccer and baseball player.
Game creator, self employed and entrepreneur were not ranked in last year.
They maybe new kinds of job for next generation kids.

The No.1 patissier has always been a popular job for girls. It was No.1 last year too, and maintained its ranking.
However, No.2 is very realistic just like boys ranking which is company employee.
No.3 doctor was ranked 4th last year and went up to 3rd this year.
The unique part of girls ranking is No.6 and No.8 were ranked less than 10 last year. Both got popular this year even though they are totally different kind of job.

This is outdated. Working at Japanese elementary and junior high schools, I can tell you that all boys want to be YouTubers. Which is dumb, since they're all about as talkative as a dead mouse, but there you go. "Hey, this one guy manages to make enough money to survive by yammering on in videos from his house! It must be easy! I want to do it."
