- I'm going to go with there being a typo somewhere.
I'm fairly certain にらんでいる part can only be 睨んでいる. So it doesn't allow many possibilities for the rest of the sentence.
やさく is a Japanese name. If that sentence really doesn't contain any typos, then this is the only thing I can come up with that could make sense.
Doing an exact phrase search on Google for "やさくにらんでいる" returns 0 results, and same for alternative conjugations, so I still think there's a typo...August 14, 2015 at 12:21pm - What would be cool is if 野菜 were being comically treated as an i-adjective and made into an adverb, which could be kind of funny for that sentence. I doubt that's what it is though. :DAugust 14, 2015 at 12:26pm
- I'm thinking about a typo as well, probably more やさしくにらんでいる (I definitely prefer kanji to kana, it just confuses me)
Haha Yasai ! It would be funny.August 14, 2015 at 2:48pm - 先生は優しく睨んでいる makes more senseAugust 14, 2015 at 2:52pm
- but how does it look?August 14, 2015 at 2:56pm
- Gentle scowl?August 14, 2015 at 3:19pm
- Yeah, I think that's correct. Gently glaring or gently scowling.
If I swap やさく with やさしく on that Google search I get a few results, but only a very small number. It really doesn't seem like a common expression.
I was interested in what other adverbs are used with 睨む, so I did skimmed through the search results copy-pasting each one I found. キツく and がましく seem to be by far the most common ones.
Here's what I copy-pasted:
That one I listed first is a vague alternative possibility. Using romaji layout on a qwerty keyboard, it wouldn't be too hard to accidentally press S instead of W. But it still seems a lot more likely that it is やさしく not やわく. Was interesting to look into this. ^^August 14, 2015 at 8:54pm - yes there is not of a lot results, even when just hiragana or a mix of kanji-hiragana. That's interesting though. So there are two ways to use kawaii?
エロく睨んでいる haha! Well all of this is informative. ThanksAugust 15, 2015 at 2:40am - The second usage of かわいい is an incorrect spelling, but I saw quite a few places were it had been spelt that way. I just thought it was interesting so I kept it in the list.August 15, 2015 at 5:29am
