防衛省は２０日、航空自衛隊那覇基地（那覇市）に早期警戒機Ｅ２Ｃで編成する飛行隊を新設した。これまでは三沢基地（青森県三沢市）配備のＥ２Ｃを必要に応じて那覇基地に派遣して南西諸島の領空侵犯に備えていたが、那覇に常駐させることで警戒監視能力の強化を図る。
